Cairns Bushwalking Trails

The Far North Queensland offers a breathtaking backdrop for your family holiday. Our staffs in the Palm Cove accommodation at The Villas Palm Cove have provided a number of walking trails that you can visit to enjoy a hiking adventure with the family.

Behana Gorge and Clam Shell Falls

The Behana Gorge and Clam Shell Falls are located within Bellenden Ker National Park. The 6km return is considered as a moderate range hiking trail will approximately take about 2hrs walk. You’ll be able to pass through a forest filled with various eucalypts and ferns. Hikers can also get a refreshing sight of the cascading Clam Shell Falls. 

Mowbray to Black Mountain Road

If you’re up for a challenging walk, try trekking the Bump Track which is noted for its steepness especially on the Slatey Pinch and The Landing sections. Hikers will be able to pass through a dense forest surrounded by regrowth scrub and eucalypt trees.

Black Mountain Road to Big Mowbray Falls

The walking track from Black Mountain Road to Big Mowbray Falls is of moderate range. The 6.5km return will take only about 2hrs walk. There are a couple of impressive lookout points just above the falls overlooking Mowbray Valley and a good view from the head of the falls.

Misty Mountain and Cannabullen Trail

Hikers will be able to explore the trails access through the ancient forests in the Tully Gorge and McNamee Tableland at Misty Mountain and Cannabullen Trail. You can pass through pass through pockets of spectacular virgin rainforest. There is also an unnamed water falls along the Hinson Trailhead as well as a camp site where you can stop by for a quick lunch.

Crystal Cascades

An easy range hiking trail, the Crystal Cascade is one of the most popular walking tracks in Cairns. Visitors will be able to enjoy a leisure stroll 1.2 kilometre paved path to the swift-flowing Freshwater Creek up a densely rainforested valley. You’ll see several tributary streams tumbling down the valley walls, rock pools down to the rapids in Freshwater Creek where visitors are allowed to swim or enjoy lunch at the nearby picnic facilities.
